Is It Possible?
Is it possible that this is the entrance
To the cellar, which leads to the stake
And not to heaven’s gate?
Is it possible that one silent woman,
From her hollow heart becomes suddenly
Another mother in this world,
Or does she become
A citizen of a cemetery?
Is it possible that these rains which fall this winter
On the branches of the olive trees,
These rains which already stayed for two weeks
Do resemble these of yesteryear,
Or are they, in spite of God’s promise,
The Flood number two,
Which will place the whole land
At the bottom of the sea
At the end?
And is it possible that the next spring,
If it really comes, is going to be
The same as all springs,
Since Noah’s new beginning,
Or is it going to be
The end of all flesh?
To the cellar, which leads to the stake
And not to heaven’s gate?
Is it possible that one silent woman,
From her hollow heart becomes suddenly
Another mother in this world,
Or does she become
A citizen of a cemetery?
Is it possible that these rains which fall this winter
On the branches of the olive trees,
These rains which already stayed for two weeks
Do resemble these of yesteryear,
Or are they, in spite of God’s promise,
The Flood number two,
Which will place the whole land
At the bottom of the sea
At the end?
And is it possible that the next spring,
If it really comes, is going to be
The same as all springs,
Since Noah’s new beginning,
Or is it going to be
The end of all flesh?
