Love is Like the Legendary Sphinx
They tell me that love is
Like the legendary Sphinx,
Which swallowed into it
Those who had not solved it’s riddle
And to those who had solved only part of it,
The sphinx granted only the illusion
As if they had experienced love,
But that was not the real love,
Which is deep and fierce
And mysterious, as a whole,
But only a poor substitute
Of the love of the flesh, all in all,
Which is without any inspiration
And is not love at all.
Like the legendary Sphinx,
Which swallowed into it
Those who had not solved it’s riddle
And to those who had solved only part of it,
The sphinx granted only the illusion
As if they had experienced love,
But that was not the real love,
Which is deep and fierce
And mysterious, as a whole,
But only a poor substitute
Of the love of the flesh, all in all,
Which is without any inspiration
And is not love at all.
