Woman’s Tears
“Thus Said the Lord:
Refrain thy voice from weeping,
And thine eyes from tears.
For thy work shall be rewarded…”
(Jeremiah 31, 16)
Refrain your voice from weeping, don’t you cry again
Even if I am going astray;
Don’t you cry now, nor shiver, nor fear
Even if I am falling into a pit;
Don’t you cry, don’t you weep,
Keep the salty tears out of your cheeks.
And if a slice of bread leads a man astray,
Then a drop of salty tear may carry him to a grave.
But if quietly you are now weeping,
I shall lick shakily a tear after a tear,
‘Cause each of your tears purifies
My sins, and atones my bitter fate.
Even if I am going astray;
Don’t you cry now, nor shiver, nor fear
Even if I am falling into a pit;
Don’t you cry, don’t you weep,
Keep the salty tears out of your cheeks.
And if a slice of bread leads a man astray,
Then a drop of salty tear may carry him to a grave.
But if quietly you are now weeping,
I shall lick shakily a tear after a tear,
‘Cause each of your tears purifies
My sins, and atones my bitter fate.
